Which trends the world is reading about and searching for more than it used to, and which less. Attention is not the same as the strength of a force: a trend can deepen unnoticed, and a news event can lift attention for a fortnight.

The world over three years

Each trend carries a weekly score of public attention from 15 Oct 2023 to the week of 4 Oct 2026, built from Wikipedia reading in 28 languages and Google searching worldwide. Each trend is set against the typical trend in the list, so the score shows which trends are gaining notice and which are losing it; 100 is a trend's own three-year average. It does not say one trend draws more attention than another, and attention is not the same as the strength of the force. The figures count the trends in each band over the last year. How it is built.

Attention by region and G20 member

Each trend is also followed inside each region and G20 member, from two sources averaged where both exist. Google searching is taken country by country for 48 countries, with each trend asked for in English and in the country's own language. Wikipedia reading is taken through the languages mostly read in a place, since no open source counts reading by country. A line compares a trend with its own past in one place; it does not say one place attends more than another. How places are read.

The percentage beside a language is the share of its readers who are in the place. A language marked by language is placed by where it is spoken, because much of its reading reaches Wikipedia through networks in other countries. Trends read is the number of the 250 trends searched for or read enough in the place to follow.
